Lt. Jay Dupre was fired from the Washington Parish Sheriff’s Office after he was charged with being involved in an incident that involved gunshots on Bud Slocum Road shortly after 1:30 a.m. this past Friday.
No one was hurt in the incident.
Dupre was off duty at the time and wasn’t in uniform, nor was he driving a WPSO vehicle when the incident occurred, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
Sheriff Jason Smith said the incident Dupre was involved in was serious, and so he decided to ask the Louisiana State Police to handle the investigation, in order to avoid any conflict.
After investigating, state troopers arrested Dupre and booked on charges of aggravated assault with a firearm and home invasion.
Bond was set st $250,000. The investigation is continuing.
Sheriff Smith said after the arrest he reviewed the facts and decided to terminate Dupre’s employment with WPSO.
Dupre had been a deputy for 15 years.
