The Franklinton Demons baseball team fell in round two of the LHSAA Division II non select baseball playoffs in a series with the Lutcher Bulldogs. The Demons lost 4-3 on Thursday night and subsequently lost 4-3 on Friday evening after leading for a majority of the game. The Demons end their season with a nice 19-14 record and a playoff series win in the first round.
In game one of the series the Demons got out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Jojo Burkhalter led off the game with a single before a hit batter moved him to second. Kaedyn Jenkins then singled him in for the opening lead.
The Bulldogs then scored two tuns in the bottom half of the inning using two singles and a walk to go up 2-1.
The Bulldogs increased their lead in the second scoring another run on a hit batter, a walk and a fielder's choice for a 3-1 lead. The Demons fought back in the third to cut the lead to 3-2 as Daron Sinceno singled followed by Kaden Breaux's single and Jenkins reaching on an error, upon which Sinceno scored.
The Demons tied the game in the sixth as Dalton Freeman singled to lead off the inning before a balk moved Freeman to second and he scored on Burkhalter's single.
The Bulldogs then scored in the bottom of the seventh as their second batter hit a double then scored on a single to end the game, 4-3 in the Bulldogs favor.
Jojo Burkhalter singled twice as did Kaedyn Jenkins and DaRon Sinceno. Dalton Freeman, Kaden Breaux, Jordy Thomassen and Parker DeCarlo each had singles.
Dalton Freeman pitched 92 pitches, all but two in the game, and six and a third innings giving up four hits, three base on balls with one strikeout. Rick Songy pitched the remainder of the game allowing one hit.
In game two the Demons got out to a nice 3-1 lead until the Bulldogs scored a run in each of the fourth and fifth innings to tie the game. The game went into extra innings before Lutcher scored a run in the top of the ninth to go up 4-3. The Demons could not respond in the bottom half of the inning and the Bulldogs won the game and the series to move on to the quarterfinal round of the playoffs.
