Last Wednesday (Sept. 23) the Franklinton Police Department investigated a battery complaint involving an incident at the Liberty Inn motel on Washington Street.
A lady told police that a man she had met through social media held her at knifepoint inside a motel room. She later escaped and contacted police.
Officers went to the motel and contacted the man, identified as Donte Burton, 31, of Kentwood. During his arrest, officers observed what appeared to be equipment and materials used to print checks. A Franklinton Police Department investigator collected several cell phones, a computer, a printer, and several sheets of blank check paper for forensic examination.
The Franklinton Police Department investigator handling the case works in conjunction with the U.S. Secret Service Task Force and is working with its Forensics Lab in Metairie to examine the evidence.
Burton was charged with multiple felonies last Wednesday, and was also wanted in several other jurisdictions. The investigation remains ongoing, and additional charges may follow.
