LAPLACE, La. (AP) — A man shot by a sheriff’s deputy earlier this week will be arrested once he is released from a hospital, Louisiana State Police said Wednesday.
Twenty-year-old Jacoby Williams, who was shot Sunday in St. John the Baptist Parish, remained in critical condition on Wednesday, said Trooper Katherine Stegall, a state police spokesperson.
A warrant accuses Williams, of Gramercy, of four counts of aggravated assault on a peace officer and one of resisting a police officer with force or violence, a news release said.
Williams was shot Sunday after sheriff's deputies answered 911 calls reporting a partly submerged car. One deputy fired one shot, Wednesday's news release said.
“One AK-47 style firearm and one 9mm handgun were recovered from the scene," it said.
Williams was a passenger in the car, which had run into a marsh. The driver was ticketed for reckless driving, the statement said.
Police said they cannot release further details because they’re still investigating. Findings will be turned over to the parish district attorney's office.
