Washington Parish’s next U.S. Congressional Representative will be either a Democrat from Monroe or a Republican from Central Louisiana.
Pat Moore, a Democrat, and Gabe Firment, a Republican, will advance to the December 12 runoff after none of the 9 candidates in Tuesday’s Congressional primary won more than 50% of the vote.
Moore led all candidates with 40,789, followed by Firment with 39,131.
In Washington Parish, the top Congressional winner was Austin Magee, a resident of the parish. However, Magee finished in last place district-wide.
Moore, the Democrat, took 40,789 votes in the 6th Congressional District, compared to Firment’s 39,131 votes.
In Washington Parish, Magee led with 3,005 votes, followed by Michael Echols with 2,210 and Antonio Wilson with 2,202.
The run-off candidates, Moore and Firment, are both state representatives. The December 12 runoff winner will be sworn in during January as the next 6th District Congressional Representative, serving Washington Parish and a wide swath of Northeast Louisiana.
The current 6th District Congressional Representative is Julia Letlow, who was very narrowly elected to the U.S. Senate Tuesday.
