Happy Fourth of July!
Friday we will celebrate the 4th of July, the birthday of our great country. I hope you all have a fun and safe day. I don't know exactly what I'm doing but would like to have something good to eat and some Washington Parish sweet watermelon. Ha! Ha!
Dairy Day was held at the Southeast Research Station on Wednesday, June 12th. The dairy men were recognized and received a plaque for outstanding milk wards. My brother Troy always called us and expected us to be there. Over the years he had gotten several quality milk awards. One of his awards, a plaque for 2017, now hangs on my wall. We always went to support him. Years ago, Troy hosted a dairy day meeting at his farm.
The 4-Hers received ribbons for their dairy dishes entered in the contest. Charly McIntyre got four (4) blue ribbons, being first place. She was the overall winner for her salad division. Her family attends our church. The dairy poster winners were recognized. Numerous door prizes were drawn. When the meeting was over everyone enjoyed lunch, milk and ice cream. T-shirts and other nice items were available. I entered Chris Burch to go with me. He had never been to dairy day. It was a new experience for him.
Father's Day was June 15th. Hopefully you had a great day and enjoyed being with your children. If you are fortunate to still have your father around, you are truly blessed. For those of us whose father is deceased, we can reflect on those happy times together and the great memories. Bryan's girls sent Father Day Greetings, and I treated him to lunch at Cafe' Bouchee's. Happy belated Father's Day to all you wonderful men.
Shelby Burch Jr. was treated to lunch at Sugar Shack enjoying time with his children and family members on Father's Day.
Guess what! I've been creating some new squash dishes and even frying cucumbers. I've never heard of or eaten fried cucumbers but believe it or not they are very tasty. You might need to try it, seeing is believing.
Happy July birthday to the following special people, my son Bryan Keith Alford, my grandson Christopher Loyd Alford, my great granddaughter McKayla Breanna Gemain, my niece Sharon Hughes Watson, my niece Kourtney Ingram Herning, my niece Rebekah Bedwell, Jonathan Lee Schubert, Linda Miller, Angela McElveen Stafford, Kristy Alford Morgan, Jean Pate, Ms. Catherine Davis, Laurie Schilling, Christella Lee Brown, Beverly Mier, Sydney Wills, Kaitlyn Miller, Lena G. Bennet, Jason Watkins, Jonathan Samuel Tynes, John and Matthew Miller, Tricia Wood, Sister Sandy Miller, and Christine Morris. I hope your day is a special one, enjoy it.
We had some bad weather around last Sunday. Damage was done in our Fair City of Franklinton. Trees were down at Sweet Rest Church. The electricity was out for hours. We're thankful that no one was injured from the storm.
Condolences to the dear families of Rita Tanda Schilling, Mary Ada James, and Rita Breland. Death of a loved came leaving an empty space in our heart, but we do know that when it's time they will die and so will you and me. One thing for sure, if they know the Lord and are saved, we know where they are, resting in his arms, no more pain. That is one thing we are sure of. Our prayers are with you and your family.
Please pray for the sick, my sister Lorell, my sister Jackie, my friend Margierite Lapani, and others you know.
Take care of yourself, drink plenty of fluids when outside because it sure is hot outside. Smile, it looks good on you. I look forward to visiting with you next time. You may need to check on the elderly who live close to you. Prayerfully, your weekly correspondent, love Nell.
