Hello once again to all my special friends. Hope all is good with you. Take a few minutes of R and R and visit with me. You probably have lots going on, but it can wait. You deserve a break. Guess what? When you read this, I'll be on a chartered bus trip to Branson, Missouri, and having a blast. It's been a while since I've traveled but I'm looking forward to going. Branson always has great entertainment/shows to enjoy. When I return, I'll have something special to share with you. My sister Jackie and I are excited to be traveling with Franklinton First Baptist Senior Adults. I'll also be making some new friends hopefully.
Fair Time! Fair Time! Our Washington Parish free fair is October 15 through the 19th. Only six more days till then. I'm hoping to enter some exhibits this year. At least in the baking division. Last year I wasn't feeling well and did not enter anything. In the past, I've entered exhibits in the homemaker's building, art, and crafts, flower house and crops.
I would like to share a few of my special entries. In the year 2015, I had the most entries in the homemakers building and won the sweepstake award. I had 39 entries in baking, canning, crafts, and etc. My sister Jackie presented me with a plaque. I was so happy. There was also a beef cookoff one year and I was the top winner. I was given a $50 check for my prize. I was living in Crowley part-time. I made Cajun chili.
In 2001 I entered the sr. ladies promenade held on the porch of King cabin. I was named Belle in the younger division. I received a loving cup and an arm bouquet. My mom Mary Lee Ingram was also in the promenade that same year. She got the prettiest dress and got a plaque. We made history, being the only time mother and daughter were in the competition. I have lots of fond memories of the fair and winning big.
Happy October birthday to the following; my great great niece Finley Ann, my great great nephew Nash Taylor, Mrs. Romena James, McKinnlie Richoux, Kamryn Semento, Karen Topps, Savannah Bickham, Bronnae Perry, Makennie Roberts, Bobby Accardo, Troy Nicholson, Louis Oniel Tate, Sammie Tynes, Mark Mier, John Cannpaksk, Ardtaveno Dyson, Mason Givens, Kenley Curole, Cooper Walker, Logan Parta, Kyle Russell Hartoz, Cody Hughes, Lane Thomas, Charles Dedon, Linda M. Dedon, Hannah Taylor, Lacey Richard, and Isabella Glaze.
Since we are collecting the state Missions offering, I would like to share with you how the offering began and how it got its name.
Georgia Barnette was the first elected and paid WMU Executive Director/Treasurer in Louisiana. She worked tirelessly to help women begin WMU Circles for one purpose - to pray for and give to missions. She worked with state convention leaders, leading women to begin an annual offering in 1907, to support state missionaries. In 1936 the offering was named in her honor.
Georgia Barnette traveled by boat, piogue, horse and buggy and train from her home in New Orleans to visit state missionaries who were beginning churches among the French, Indians and Anglo cultures of our state.
Her love for Louisiana and her desire to see every life in Louisiana impacted by the Gospel is an example to Louisiana Baptists today as we pray for, give to, and do missions here in our state.
Marguerite Lapani was so happy to come home on October 1st. She has been in the Riverside Medical Center for several days. She is doing better. Please keep her in your prayers.
Thought for the week! Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in Heaven, Matthew 5:16.
Take care and stay tuned in. I'll visit with you next week. Keep on Smiling- Prayerfully Nell.
