Having read in The Era-Leader the obituary of my Franklinton High School classmate Laverne Sheridan Corkern, I had to comment about our graduating class of 1948.
Our class was the last class in Louisiana to finish in only eleven years.
Most of our class came to Franklinton from various rural schools which were closed just as we began our Second Grade. Making the many adjustments to blend with the town children helped us learn to love all the members of our class. I think we kept that bond all the way through the ten years ahead of us.
Our class did several things that were unique to Franklinton High School. For instance, our class published the first Annual, showing all the classes enrolled in Franklinton High School.
For several years, three of us, members of the 1948 graduating class, have thought we were all that were still living until I read Laverne's obituary. We three are Geraldine Bullock Weaver, Franklin Carr and myself, Gary Edmon Penton.
If there are still other members of our 1948 class living, I would be happy to hear from you or a family member. --- Gary E. Penton
