Leonard Reid Simmons, 72, of Mount Hermon passed away Tuesday, February 1, 2022 at Oschner Medical Center surrounded by his family.
Len Reid was born October 4, 1949 in Franklinton, Louisiana to Percy and Dorothy (Detrie) Simmons. He graduated from Franklinton High School in 1967 and from Southeastern Louisiana University's Business College in 1972. On May 6, 1978 he married Eleanor (Applewhite) Fournet. He was employed in various business ventures over the years, most notably as the owner of Carpet Castle of Hammond, Louisiana and for Thomas J Lipton Company in Mississippi, Texas and Louisiana.
He enjoyed tending to his garden and flower beds and bird watching. His love for bird watching drove him to take up painting of birds, numerous of which earned prizes at the Washington Parish Fair. His true passion was traveling with his loving wife, visiting all 50 states and over 50 countries.
Len Reid was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Jane Marie and brother James (Jim) Percy. He is survived by his wife Eleanor, sister-in-law Barbara (Butenhoff) Simmons, children David Fournet and wife Robin (Bueche), Deborah Fournet and partner Robin Pitre, Daniel Fournet and wife Brandy (Brecheen), grandchildren Elizabeth Noell, Carter Fournet and wife Kaitlyn, Anna Fournet and Reid Fournet, and nephews Brandon and Conner Simmons.
In lieu of a funeral, a celebration of life will be held in Len Reid's honor on a future date.
