Rosalind Ann Anderson (Rocky)
Born in Mt. Hermon, LA - September 24, 1948
She is the 2nd daughter of Henry and Beverly Ney, and sister of Jerice (deceased), Judy and Ellen.
She grew up on a dairy farm, milking cows, and working the land. She was very active in her church, Mt. Hermon Baptist Church, from a young age. She excelled at Mt. Hermon School both in academics and athletics. She was an All-State basketball player all 4 years of high school. She received a full scholarship to attend Southeastern University in Hammond, LA.
At the age of 18, Rocky began to have symptoms of dizziness, vomiting and weakness. She was then diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis.
She was living in CA and began working at Bob's Big Boy where she met her future husband, Bob. On their first date, which was at a park, Rocky brought along her young daughter Erica, from a previous marriage. It was love at first sight! Bob and Rocky married soon after and bought a house in Costa Mesa where their beautiful son, Ryan was born.
Rocky really wanted to raise her kids in the country, so off they went and moved the family to Louisiana. She was in her element. She raised her chickens and helped with the family farm. She soon got a job as a preschool teacher at the Head Start Program which she truly loved. Life in the country was wonderful.
Things took a hard turn in June of 1978 when Rocky and Bob lost their stillborn son, John Henry Anderson. Despite their doctor's advice, Rocky got pregnant again and gave birth to their little angel, Mary, in July of 1979. Shortly after giving birth, Rocky was unable to walk. Under the direct advice of her doctor, the family left the humidity of the Southern state and moved back to California.
Rocky was determined to make a life for her family, despite her deteriorating health. She started a cleaning business where she made many lifelong friends. Life soon became busy with Bob's moving business and the kids' heavy sport schedules. Soon after, Erica invited her parents to attend the Heart in The Box play at Calvary Costa Mesa and they were then exposed to the verse-by-verse teachings from the Calvary Chapel churches.
After moving into their Skandia home in Huntington Beach, Bob and Rocky began attending Refuge Calvary (I don't remember the name it was called before Refuge). Rocky soon began teaching in Children's ministry and joined in other ministries, but being with the kids was what she loved the most.
Rocky's eyesight began to soon deteriorate, and she was in a terrible car accident which sent her to the emergency room. Then her health took another hard hit. She received lots of care from her new church family and was thankful for the visit and prayers from Pastor Bill and Pastor Alyn.
Even though it seemed that she would never recover from the effects of the car accident, Refuge Calvary was a place where she and Bob began to grow spiritually. As the years continued and her body became weaker, her spiritual life grew stronger.
Rocky was involved in many women's studies and in the last 6 years the ladies brought the bible studies into her home so that she wouldn't miss it. Bob and the ladies would rearrange the furniture so that they could get the 20 plus ladies in. She loved the women and called them her angels. They were all still meeting together until a few weeks before she passed.
Rocky continues her legacy through her husband, Bob, her children, Erica, Ryan and Mary, and her grandchildren, Kharis, Jesse and Addy.
