Parish Playoff Picture - The parish playoff picture has cleared up considerably. Still one game left to play. Here are the parish teams chances.
Remember that the top 28 teams qualify for the playoffs and the top 16 teams host in the first round. All home playoff games are determined by the highest seed.
Franklinton, with their loss last week, is not in good shape at 27. They seriously need to win their game this week to qualify for the playoffs. With a loss there is still a mathematical possibility but it is remote.
Pine, with a 7-2 record, is in solid shape at 12. With one game to play they will make the playoffs win or lose. However, a win would mean a home playoff game while a loss could mean a road playoff game in the first round.
Bogalusa is not in good shape at 37. They have a game with Albany this week that is winnable. However, even with a win they would need help.
Varnado is at 34 and also not in good shape. They have a tough game this week and a win would improve their chances.
Notes and Quotes
The Franklinton Demons cross country team hosted the 7-4A district cross country championships recently at St Thomas Aquinas. Hannan and St Scholastica were the girls team runners up and champions while on the boy's side Lakeshore was the runner up and Hannan was the champion. FHS team members, Fielder Baham, Abree Hardin, Weston Webb and Beau Eckert qualified for the Division 3 Cross Country championship to be held November 6 at City Park in New Orleans.
The team thanks Rob Crain for his support and contributions.
Amite's football game with Northlake Christian was forfeited due to low team numbers on Northlake.
"I saw our players play hard and with belief in the program. When you are struggling like this that is something to be proud of. Our coaches did a good job putting us in a position to win the game it just didn't happen. We have one more to play and win that one and we can get into the playoffs. That is the goal. We can complain about our record but that doesn't help. Our focus is on this one game and winning it." ---Franklinton coach Nick Saltaformaggio
"The defense led us last night. We had three interceptions and the defensive line and linebackers shut the run game down. Offensively we had 350 yards but didn't finish drives. I thought St Thomas Aquinas did a good job not giving up the big play and made us drive the ball down the field. Next week we have a big game against a good Independence team."
---Pine coach Bradley Seal
"Tough lessons learned for the Lumberjacks in a 32-35 loss to the Pope John Paul football team. The Lumberjacks squad played their hearts out but must learn to close out teams once they have the lead." ---Bogalusa coach Larry Harold
"Proud of our guys. It was senior night and the guys played hard and gave great effort. We were facing adversity with several injuries. I told our guys to keep your head up because we start playoffs next week and that's the important games. We will get some of our players back so we will be excited about that. Just proud of the team and coaches to finish the season with a winning record. Go Bucs!"
