The Era-Leader was founded in 1910. It has been published every week since its founding.
It is one of the few newspapers in Southeast Louisiana that never missed a single edition during Hurricane Katrina in 2005.
In 1992 The Era-Leader joined Emmerich Newspapers Inc, which publishes numerous community newspapers in Louisiana, Mississippi and Arkansas. However, The Era-Leader remains totally local -- all decisions concerning the newspaper are made right here at home in Franklinton by local people.
In 1994 the newspaper constructed a new building at 1137 Main Street in Franklinton, 3 blocks south of the courthouse.
The Era-Leader has been serving Franklinton and Washington Parish since 1910. Although many things have changed over the years, our mission remains the same – to provide the highest quality local news coverage and the most effective advertising options for businesses in our area. The Era-Leader is published each Wednesday of the year.
In addition to the newspaper itself, The Era-Leader also publishes 'Here's Washington Parish', an annual magazine all about the parish. We also publish The Washington Parish Phone Book each year. It is a colorful, cheerful phone book that is distributed to every home and business in the parish.
We take pride in producing a strong community newspaper. Whether it’s covering local government, high school sports or human interest stories, The Era-Leader is committed to providing the best news coverage for Washington Parish and delivering the best value for businesses seeking to promote their products in our coverage area.
Your ideas and suggestions are always welcome! We believe a local newspaper belongs to the community --- in this case, to the readers of Washington Parish. Never hesitate to tell us what we can do to improve, and to serve you better!
