The recent historic $1.78 billion Powerball jackpot run produced multiple Louisiana winners, including a $50,000 ticket sold for the September 6 drawing.
James Creel of Bogalusa claimed the prize on Monday, September 8, at Lottery headquarters in Baton Rouge. His ticket matched four of the five white ball numbers plus the red Powerball number.
Creel said he initially stopped at his usual retailer but left when he saw the checkout line was too long. Instead, he purchased a quick pick ticket at JR. Food Mart #369 on Hwy 25 and Hwy 40 in Folsom — the very ticket that made him $50,000 richer.
“We are thrilled for Mr. Creel and for the many Louisianians who shared in the excitement of this record jackpot run,” said Rose Hudson, Lottery President. “Stories like his remind us how Powerball connects players across the state, and we encourage other winners to check their tickets and claim their prizes soon.”
Earlier in the week, a Lafayette player also claimed a $50,000 prize from the same jackpot run, highlighting the number of significant wins for Louisiana residents during this historic stretch.
The winning numbers for the September 6 Powerball drawing were 11-23-44-61-62, and the red Powerball number was 17. The jackpot was won by two tickets sold in Missouri and Texas.
The Louisiana Lottery reminds players to sign the back of their tickets immediately after purchase to safeguard their claims. Winning tickets for draw-style games must be claimed within 180 days of the drawing date.
