With last Sunday’s dangerous fire situation near Lacombe in mind, Washington Parish President Ryan Seal is continuing the local burn ban.
“Washington Parish remains under an active burn ban and Red Flag conditions,” Seal said Monday morning.
A Sunday wildfire that spread rapidly and forced the closing of Interstate 12 near Lacombe is a stark example of how dangerous fire conditions are right now, Seal noted.
“These are extremely dangerous fire conditions, where even the smallest spark can quickly turn into a fast-moving wildfire,” he said.
“The large fire in the Lacombe area this weekend is a serious reminder of how rapidly fires can spread in dry and windy weather. I urge all residents to strictly comply with the burn ban and avoid any activity that could create sparks. Prevention is our strongest defense. Let's work together to protect our homes, our property, and our parish,” said Seal.
The burn ban states very definitely that no outside burning can take place until it is lifted. Any resident with a question about the burn ban can contact the Parish Government office or any local fire department in the parish.
