Peggy S. Brown, 85, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, June 6, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, and again beginning at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Brandon, Mississippi. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home, with Dr. Jeff Holland officiating.
Peggy "Gee" Brown was born on March 16, 1941, in Tylertown, Mississippi, to Wilsie Smith and N.L. Smith. She earned a Reading Specialist degree from the University of Southern Mississippi and dedicated her life to education. She began her teaching career in the Washington Parish School System and later retired as a Reading Specialist with the Louisiana State Department of Education. Peggy was an active member of the Franklinton, Louisiana community serving as the mayor’s wife for many years before relocating to Brandon, Mississippi.
She enjoyed quilting, sewing, cooking, and creating a warm and welcoming home for family and friends. Her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren and beloved granddogs. She was a faithful member of Pinelake Church and an active participant in the Truth Seekers Sunday School Class.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Deborah Walker and Richard Walker of Brandon, MS; sons and daughters-in-law, Dr. Earle R. Brown Jr. and Sherri Brown of Franklinton, LA; and son, Frank and Nancy Brown of Baton Rouge, LA; 5 Grandchildren and spouses; Kelli and Will McLaughlin, Casey Walker, Barrett and Christi Brown, Matthew and Kelsey Brown, Daniel Brown; 3 Great-Grandchildren; Sister-in-law; Francis Smith of Tylertown, MS and numerous nieces, nephews, and other family members.
She was proceeded in death by her beloved husband, Earle R. Brown Sr.; parents, Wilsie Smith and N.L. Smith; brother, Billy Ray Smith, and daughter, Teresa Simpson.
Pallbearers are Will McLaughlin, Will Mallette, Chris Mallette, Cody Walker, Greg Mallette, and Jeff Carey.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to VitalCaring Hospice for the compassionate care and support they provided during Peggy's final days.
