Pine lost an important district game last Thursday, falling to Amite 20-6.
Now the Raiders, 5-2 on the season, face another tough foe this week as they take on undefeated Jewel-Sumner in a crucial District 8-3A battle.
Pine jumped out to an early lead over Amite last Thursday, but after that initial touchdown scored by quarterback Trey Knight, they were held scoreless by the stingy Amite defense.
While it was Amite’s defense thst earned credit for holding Pine scoreless after that first touchdown, the Amite offense also had a great start in the first half as it scored on back to back drives.
However, Pine’s defense kept the Raiders in the game, especially as it forced two Amite fumbles, but then the Pine offense seemed to stall in the second half.
After leading 14-6 at the half Amite went scoreless in the third quarter and Pine was still alive. But in the 4th quarter the Warriors scored on a 29-yard touchdown run with two minutes remaining to seal the 20-6 win.
Pine Coach Bradley Seal was proud of his team despite the loss.
“I'm proud of the effort we gave. Defensively we played well all night. They scored late to get up 20-6 but our defense kept us in the game all night. Offensively we were able to come out and score on our first drive. After that we had a few drives that went into their territory but never hit a big play,” Seal said.
Jewel-Sumner will bring its undefeated team to Pine this Friday evening, and the Raiders are ready for a strong effort as they seek to break Sumner’s season-long winning streak.
Pine fans need to show up in force Friday night for this crucial district game.
