Parish Playoff Picture
The playoff picture for the parish has been reduced to just a single team as Franklinton was the lone winner of round one. The Demons defeated Rayne and will now host the #9 seeded Jennings Bulldogs. The Bulldogs have an identical record to the Demons as they are both 8-3. The Bulldogs defeated the 24 seed St Martinville last Friday 56-18.
The winner will play the winner of the 16 Deridder - 1 North Desoto game. Franklinton would be at home against Deridder but be on the road against North Desoto.
Notes and quotes
The first draft of the proposed districts for the 2026-2027 cycles has been released by the LHSAA. Some interesting changes for some of our local schools.
First, Franklinton will lose Loranger from its district as they will drop to 3A. However, Salmen will be added to the district as they are returning to 4A after a stint in 5A.
Secondly, Pine will drop down to 2A after several seasons in 3A. Amite will also drop to 2A and will join Pine in a district with Independence, Springfield, St Helena and St Thomas Aquinas.
Remember, these are the proposed districts. They will not be finalized until any appeals of placement are heard and decided.
"I think our kids played exceptionally well tonight. This is what Franklinton should be doing. It was the dream when Coach Shane hired me to advance in the playoffs and our kids have worked really hard. We've had a nice run with our twentieth win in the last two years with only five losses. We know how to get through these things and it'll be another tough one next week. Everybody is going to be tough now. We're just excited about it, Demon Stadium is a tough place to come and play and get an out, so glad we're home again."
---Nick Saltaformaggio, Franklinton head coach.
"This was a very frustrating way to lose a home playoff game. In the first half we had 30 plays for 193 yards and Kaplan had 14 plays for 15 yards but they also had a 65 yard touchdown, a 43 yard touchdown and fumble for a touchdown.
We were down 20-18 in a game that we felt we controlled besides three plays. They were a team that had ran the ball for 260 yards a game and through three quarters had ran it 21 times for 8 yards. But as well as our defense played in the second half we didn't get off the field in critical times. They converted a 3rd and 20 and a fake punt.
Until the three minute mark in the fourth quarter we had six plays of offense in the second half. On the game they had 47 plays for 81 yards. Then they had 3 plays for 164 yards, a fake punt and returned a fumble for a touchdown.
I really enjoyed coaching our seniors. I told them after the game getting beat in the first round falls below our standard and that's disappointing. But that's a standard they had a big part in creating by what they accomplished the last two years."
----Bradley Seal, Pine head coach.
"It was a tough one but this team grew more than any scoreboard could ever show. We battled through adversity all season and these young men kept showing up, working hard and believing in each other. Our seven seniors leave behind a legacy of leadership, effort and heart. They've built something the underclassmen can carry forward."
----Vonta Owens, Varnado head coach.
"Offensively we found a rhythm early on mixing run and the pass. Our quarterback Drew Palmer played lights out. Our offensive line played superb! Defensively we limited Cohens big play ability. We have some kings to work out on special teams bur moving on to round two to Face LRCA."
----Zephaniah Powell, Amite head coach.
