The playoff picture has stabilized and we now know all of the parish teams’ playoffs opponents and destinations.
Franklinton is an 8 seed and will host Rayne who is 4-6 overall. The winner will play the winner of the 24 St Martinville - 9 Jennings game. If Franklinton defeats Rayne the game would be at Franklinton against either opponent.
Pine draws a 13 seed and will host 20 Kaplan who is 6-4 on the season. The winner will travel to 10-0 Kinder for the second round.
Bogalusa slipped in at 28 and will travel to 5 Erath.
Varnado also slipped in at 28 and will travel to 5 Logansport.
Reminder that the top 28 teams in the power ratings receive playoff berths. The top 16 receive first round home games and the top 4 receive first round byes. The higher seeded team (1 being the highest and 28 the lowest) will be the home team throughout the playoffs.
Notes and quotes
Our neighbors to the north, the Salem Wildcats, had their wins vacated and were deemed ineligible for the playoffs due to playing an ineligible player. Prior to this season Salem had not won a game since 2019. However, on Friday, a court placed an injunction on the MHSAA to allow them to play their playoff game until a hearing could be held this week. They were defeated by Lumberton 60-18.
"We ended on a high note, continuing to win. Ricardo Burris really had a good night and we didn't have an offensive penalty. We really did a lot of things that we really needed to do and come out and dominate the second half. I think we're going to have a really nice seed and we're set up for a nice run again. We're on a nice run as a program at 16-4 over the last two regular seasons and that's where I always envisioned the program to be and now its survive and move on."
---Nick Saltaformaggio, Franklinton head coach.
"I was happy with how we ended the regular season. We played well in all three phases. We had Braxton Newman and Trey Knight go over 100 yards rushing. When multiple players go over 100 yards it tells you the offensive line is playing well. I was happy with how we played on defense also." ---Bradley Seal, Pine head coach.
"The season was a tough one but a lot of heart and effort and fight was given by these young men every week. I wish we didn't have the injuries that we had but it taught this group to never quit when adversity faced you and tried to knock you down. You always continue to do what is right and never quit and these young men did that this whole year. I want to thank the team, coaches and seniors for all their hard work this year. I wish our seniors the best of luck for the years to come. We will be back stronger and better next year and this group of seniors started the process for that. Thank you all for the support and effort this season."
---Dean King, Bowling Green head coach.
