The doors of the Thomas Branch Library are now open following a five month closure for a major renovation project.
Local residents visiting the library since it reopened have been pleasantly surprised at the refreshed and revitalized facility, who has been redesigned to better serve the community
The reopening came just in time for the library’s Summer Reading Program, held every Thursday at 2:00 PM. The program offers weekly fun and engaging activities for children and families throughout the summer.
The Thomas Branch now features new flooring, freshly painted walls, updated electronics, and several infrastructure improvements made possible by the generosity and support of local individuals and organizations. Rayburn Correctional Center provided essential manpower, assisting with dismantling furniture, transporting materials, and preparing the space for renovation
The Pierce family, along with Mary Helen Ferguson from the LSU AgCenter, helped lead the effort to landscape and restore the library’s garden area.
Pine Hardware donated gardening materials used in the project and McMillan’s Nursery generously contributed plants
The Washington Parish Friends of the Library funded the purchase and installation of a new professionally designed sign for the building, enhancing the library’s visibility and curb appeal
The Washington Parish Government offered vital maintenance support throughout the process, addressing everything from lighting upgrades to plumbing repairs and general facility needs
A special honor was reserved for Pastor Jeffery Dillon of The Living Center Church in Franklinton and his wife, Waleah Dillon, who volunteered their time and talents to paint the entire interior of the building free of charge. Their hard work and generosity made a significant impact on the success of the renovation. To recognize their outstanding contribution, the Washington Parish Library presented the Dillons with a community service award during the reopening celebration.
The Thomas Branch is now open to the public with regular hours: Monday through Wednesday from 9 AM to 5 PM, Thursday from 10 AM to 5 PM, and closed on Fridays. The branch is also closed daily from 12 PM to 1 PM for lunch. Full services are available. All are invited to visit, explore the updated space, and take part in the exciting programs planned for the summer.
