Phase 1 of the upgrade at the Atoka Recreation Complex has been completed and in use since earlier this year. The Franklinton Soccer Club broke in the initial phase by playing their spring season at the recreation complex.
The first phase consists of four full-size soccer fields, a concession stand with and women's restrooms in the back of the building and a storage building. There's also a parking lot that holds over 250 cars and includes handicap parking and several dedicated parking spaces for veterans.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held at the recreation complex Saturday, August 16 at 10 AM. Some elected officials will be on hand along with the Washington Parish Recreation District #1 board members and others who were extremely important in making this phase a reality. The public is encouraged to attend and get a firsthand look of the new facilities.
The Atoka Recreation Complex is located at 25150 Highway 25. For easier directions, the main entrance is approximately 3 miles from the entrance to the Washington Parish Fairgrounds on the highway that goes to Clifton.
Completed at a cost of nearly $1.6 million, the majority of the money spent to build this phase went to local contractors in Washington Parish. The money was obtained through a combination of state and federal grants with in-kind work contributed by the Washington Parish Government.
