Franklinton Primary School Principal Kayla Sabel is excited to announce the first annual Krewe of Cubs Alphabet Parade.
PreK 4 and Kindergarten students will present a letter of the alphabet in costume and ride on a decorated wagon/float pulled by a parent. The parade will kick off at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, April 28. Students will first move through the school parking lot for student viewing and can be watched by others on TW Barker Drive and Alford Streets. The parade will end at the gates to the south playground on Alford St.
Leading the parade will be Grand Marshal Rob Crain and FHS Senior Honoree Grand Marshal Zion Jenkins. They will be followed by a King and Queen, Prince and Princess, and Duke and Duchess chosen based on ticket sales for the event.
Rob Crain started Kindergarten in Mrs. Karen Spears's class in 1981 and was an honor graduate from Franklinton High School in 1994 where he played Demon Basketball and was voted Mr. FHS. The son of the late Robert Crain and career educator Linda Crain (who taught him in 5th grade at FES), he is a graduate of Southeastern Louisiana University and the owner of Crain Funeral Home. Rob has maintained his connection to the Primary School with all three of his sons attending FPS and he has served as the Waverley Club Santa for many years. Rob's wife, Kristi Simmons Crain, is a teacher at Franklinton Junior High School and also taught at Franklinton Elementary School. He is a member of First Baptist Church and volunteers on Wednesday nights in the Children's Ministry and a board member and all-around volunteer for the Franklinton Soccer Club at Atoki. His dedication, generosity, and lasting ties to the school community make him a perfect choice to lead this year's parade.
Zion Jenkins is the son of Raymond Jenkins and Alexis Magee and the grandson of Kendall and Gwen Bickham. His educational journey began at Franklinton Primary School where he attended Kindergarten and 1st Grade. He will graduate from Franklinton High School on May 8 and plans to attend Tulane University and double major in Philosophy and Political Science with concentrations in morality, society, and International Law. Zion credits FPS with building foundational lessons which have helped shape him into the motivated student he is today. Through his hard work, leadership, and dedication, Zion has continued to excel and represent his school and community with pride. His commitment to academic excellence, strong character, and involvement in school activities make him a wonderful role model for the Primary's students and a deserving choice to help lead the parade.
