Shortly after midnight this past Friday night, a rural Franklinton man was killed in a traffic accident in the Richardson area west of Franklinton.
The accident claimed the life of Robert Stafford, age 49.
According to the Washington Parish Sheriff’s Office, the accident happened on Simmons Road about 1 mile off of Sylvest Road. (The Sheriff’’s Office handles accidents on all rural roads that are not state highways.)
A caller advised the 911 dispatcher of the wreck. When Lt. David Cupp arrived on the scene, he discovered that Robert Stafford, the driver, had been thrown from the vehicle and sustained fatal injuries. The Coroner’s office was called, and Stafford was pronounced dead at the scene.
In Lt. Cupp’s accident report, he stated that Stafford was southbound on Simmons Road and failed to negotiate a curve. The vehicle went into a ditch, traveled 185 feet, overturning several times, and then impacted a large oak tree. Stafford was unrestrained and was thrown from the vehicle.
In addition to the Sheriff’s Office and the Coroner’s Office, first responders included the District 2 Fire Department and Northshore EMS.
