Southeastern Louisiana University’s Research Council is presenting “Pecha Kucha, A Research and Innovation Showcase,” Thursday, March 26. Held at Blackened Brew, located at 14256 W. Club Deluxe Rd. in Hammond, the event is scheduled from 5 until 8 p.m.
Pecha Kucha means ‘chit-chat’ in Japanese and is a fast-paced presentation format. Each presentation contains 20 slides, with each slide displayed for exactly 20 seconds. The slides advance automatically, so there is no stopping or going back. This results in each presentation lasting six minutes and 40 seconds.
The event aims to bring Southeastern research to the attention of the local community.
“Our faculty are our most valuable resource. The Pecha Kucha showcase offers a glimpse into the critical, region-focused research our faculty are doing,” said Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Eric Skipper. “The university is an amazingly diverse hub of intellectual capital, which can be leveraged for problem solving and improving quality of life for our region. At Southeastern, we put that ideal into action.”
The showcase will bring research to the public’s attention on academic areas such as criminal justice and sociology; chemistry and physics, biological science; health and human science; visual arts and design; and industrial engineering and technology. Topics include, but are not limited to, “Living with Lions,” “Nano Solutions Against Superbugs,” “Small Device, Big Impact: Managing Needle Anxiety in Young Adults,” “What Salamanders Have Taught Me About How the World Works,” and “Social Work Students Use Photovoice to Create Social Change.”
“We have an impressive line-up of faculty presentations. We hope everyone will join us for an evening of rapid-fire research presentations by Southeastern faculty.”
