Pine’s strong 2023 season continued last Friday night as the Raiders ran all over East Iberville to take a 48-14 Homecoming win.
Now 5-0 on the season, Pine faces a crucial District 8-3A game this coming Friday night when they will host Albany.
Albany, at 4-1, is second in the district behind Pine.
Against East Iberville, the Raiders turned in a consistent performance both on offense and defense.
Quarterback Luke Spears completed 6 out of 8 pass attempts for a total of 115 yards, including three touchdown passes.
Pine’s receivers had a very good night with DJ Garret gaining 53 yards on 3 receptions; Preston Stogner scoring for Pine with a 26-yard touchdown reception; and James Owens pulling in 3 receptions for 36 yards.
Owens also scored 2 touchdowns for the Raiders.
On the ground, the rushing leaders for Pine were:
Aiden McIntosh with 2 carries for 50 yards. Von Johnson rushed for 46 yards on 4 carries, and a touchdown. DJ Garrett also made an impact on the ground, gaining 38 yards with 2 carries and scoring a touchdown.
The Raiders had another solid performance from the defense, as well. Thomas Bernard secured an interception to stop the Tigers’ advance. Ethan Ryals tallied 8 tackles and Cadyn Stogner had 7.
The upcoming game against Albany on senior night, scheduled for October 6, will be a crucial test for the team as they aim to continue their winning streak.
After the East Iberville game, Head Coach Bradley Seal said, “It was a good game for Homecoming. We got up early and played well in all phases. The schedule gets tougher now as we move into district. Albany has a good football team and we have to be ready to play this week.”
Pine’s dominating performance in the season so far is demonstrated in the team’s points for-points against statistic. The Raiders have a powerful 236 points for vs 30 points against.
