The Franklinton Demons lost a non district matchup to the Belle Chasse Cardinals last week, 17-0. The Demons drop their record to 1-4 as they begin district action this week. The Demons are slated to travel to Archbishop Hannan this week to play the 0-5 Hawks. The Demons handled the Hawks last season 42-14.
Neither team could gain an advantage in the first period and the Cardinal got on the scoreboard at the 7:09 mark of the second period with a 44 yard field goal.
The Demons responded with a good looking drive but it ended abruptly with an interception deep in Belle Chasse territory. The Cardinal eventually scored on that drive as their quarterback rushed in from five yards out to put them up 10-0 at the halftime intermission.
The Cardinal added another touchdown late in the third on a nine yard run to put them up 17-0 after three. The Demons had two drives in the fourth period but could not muster a threat of scoring. The Cardinals used their rushing attack to efficiently run time off of the clock and preserve the victory.
Coach Saltaformaggio was obviously disappointed after the game but vows to continue to grind. "The process of rebuilding a program is a long tough climb. We are working hard every day to find the correct path to make Franklinton football great again. We have had some highs and some lows. We will keep grinding until we get there."
