The Franklinton Demons basketball team had a great week last week in basketball action as they currently hold a 6-1 record, winning all four games they played last week, including three games in their own tournament.
On Tuesday of last week the Demons played the Kentwood Kangaroos and came away with a handy victory. The Demons were up 20-14 after one period before they pulled away in the second with a 31-10 quarter for a 51-24 halftime lead. Things slowed down in the second half but the Demons bench still out scored the Kangaroos 11-8 in the third and Kentwood out scored the Demons in the final period 8-4 as the Demons won 65-40. RJ Hart was again the leading scorer with 23 points, Jaiden Garrett had 16, Amarie Conerly 9, Omira Williams 5, Avantez Brumfield 5, Samaj Jackson 2, Avery Brumfield 2, Christinn Martin 2 and Christian Young 2. The Demons were 4 of 6 in their free throw attempts.
On Wednesday night of the tournament the Demons faced off with Amite and came away with a win over the Warriors. The Demons were ahead 19-13 after the first period before the Warriors fought back to tie the game at the half 30-30. The Demons were up by one, 44-43 after three quarters of play before they won the game 62-58 with an 18-14 outing in the final period. RJ Hart was the leading scorer for the game with 22 points, Jaiden Garrett had 17 points, Omira Williams 7, Amarie Conerly 6, Donald Martin 5 and Avantez Brumfield 5.
The Demons and the Wildcats, in their Thursday matchup of the Franklinton tournament, were deadlocked at 12-12 after one period before the Demons broke through with an 18-8 second period to put them handily ahead at 30-20 at the halftime. The Demons continued to score as they out scored the Wildcats 20-17 and 23-11 in the final two periods for a convincing 73-48 win. RJ Hart was the leading scorer for the Demons with 17, while Jaiden Garrett had 14, Amarie Conerly had 12, Omira Williams had 9 and Avantez Brumfield had 8. The Demons were 22 of 35 in their free throw attempts.
The highlight of the tournament came on Friday evening as the Demons took on the Pine Raiders. After the first period the Demons were up 15-12 but Pine cut into that lead in the second outscoring the Demons 13-12 for a 27-25 Franklinton advantage at the half.
In the third the Demons pushed their slim lead to 45-41 but again Pine fought back to tie the game in the final period of regulation as they scored 21 to the Demons 17 for a 62-62 tie. In the overtime period the Demons scored 9 points while holding the Raiders to 8 points to give the Demons a 71-70 overtime win.
RJ Hart scored 28 points, including all 9 points for the Demons in overtime, to lead the Demons. Donald Martin had 10, Avantez Brumfield had 12, Omira Williams had 5, Jaiden Garrett had 13 and Avery Brumfield had 3. For the Raiders, DJ Garrett had 22 points, Nate Martin had 8, Luke Spears had 10 and Zach Thomas had 16 as the top scorers.
The All Tournament Team was selected and Franklinton's RJ Hart was selected as the Tournament MVP. Braylon Jackson of Amite, Tyren Downs of Varnado, DJ Garrett of Pine, Caiden Bickham of Lakeshore and Jaiden Garrett of Franklinton rounded out the All Tournament team for the boys.
The Demons will participate in the Fontainebleau tournament this week and both the Demons and Lady Demons will host Sumner on Tuesday December 12.
