Parish Playoff Picture - The playoff picture has clearly came into focus and all of the parish teams’ playoff futures have been revealed. A reminder that only the top 28 teams in each division get into the playoffs. Seeds 1-4 receive a first round bye. Top 16 seeds have their first game at home.
Franklinton finished at 30, two spots away from a playoff spot and so their season is now complete.
Bogalusa finished as the 5 seed in Division III and will be at home in the first round against 28 Westlake. The winner of this game plays the winner of the 21 Rayville-12 Loreauville game.
Pine finished as the 7 seed in Division III and will be at home in the first round against 25 Red River. The winner of this game plays the winner of the 23 Avoyelles-10 Kinder game. Pine would be at home against Kinder but on the road against Avoyelles.
Varnado qualified as the 24 seed and will travel to 9 White Castle. The winner plays the winner of the 25 Basile-8 Welsh game. Varnado would be at home against either team in round two.
Notes and Quotes
"Obviously, this was a difficult week for our team with Coach Salt being out due to a double hernia removal. Also, our special teams coordinator Coach Oestreicher had an emergency appendectomy on Wednesday, so he was out as well. That was difficult. And yet, I'm so proud of our players and coaches for how they handled the adversity. They were phenomenal. We conducted ourselves with class and dignity tonight. Our kids played with great effort and produced one of our cleanest games of the year.
Defensively, I really thought we had a good plan. We didn't always play with great pad level and we struggled to get off the field on critical downs. It took us a while to get going offensively. Coach Hawthorne did a great job of making adjustments up front and giving me valuable information. He is a phenomenal coach and an integral part of our offense. The fumble on the first drive ended up being critical. The kickoff return for a touchdown was huge. It allowed them to quickly flip the momentum of the game back in their favor. We grabbed it back a few times, but could never quite hold on to it. In the end they simply made a couple more plays than we did.
I have the deepest appreciation and love for our seniors. They have experienced tremendous adversity, including three different head coaches in a four year period. That is rare at FHS. "It's always exciting making it to the playoffs. I'm proud of our kids. We played a tough schedule, but I thought we got better as the year went and as a coach that is what you want to see. We only have two seniors, Chase Lewis and Tyriq Bell, but they are good ones. They both have had a great year and represented Varnado well.
