Local and area high schools are having their spring football practices currently and most will cap it off with a scrimmage. The spring practice time gives a team a chances to find replacements for graduated players, it helps with finding depth, which is always important over a long season, and it gives them a chance for the team to “not get rusty” over the long break from the 2024 season until the beginning of the 2025 season. For some teams the spring practice time is for installing new offensive or defensive schemes. For others it is an opportunity for new coaches who are getting acquainted with their team and the team getting to know what the new coach wants to see in his team. Here are the known dates and places.
Franklinton is scrimmaging Hammond at Hammond on May 15.
FJHS will scrimmage Kentwood at Kentwood on May 14.
Amite will have a purple and gold intra-squad scrimmage on May 16.
Denham Springs will go to Chalmette on May 10 for a scrimmage.
Varnado and Mandeville have elected to not have a spring practice time or scrimmage and will have extra days in the fall pre season. Bowling Green will do the same.
Central Private will participate in a three way scrimmage with St Thomas Aquinas and Westminster Christian on May 14 at SLU.
Sumner will play Independence on May 14 at Independence.

Loranger head football coach Sammy Messina has left Loranger and will be the head coach at Independence. Messina was a former coordinator at Independence under Charles Baglio. Offensive coordinator Christopher Powell has been named head coach at Loranger.
Albany coach John Legoria has resigned. Coordinator Travis Mikel has been named as replacement.
Cecilia head coach Dennis Skains has resigned and taken a coordinator position at East Ascension.
Pearl River coach Eric Collins has resigned and former Salmen coach Jerry Leonard has been named as his replacement.
St Helena head coach Chris Gordon has resigned. Decarlos Holmes had been named as replacement.
Varnado head coach Adam Brumfield has stepped down as coach. Vonta Owens has been hired as head coach for the Wildcats.
