In 2023, I launched my campaign with a clear and unwavering focus: building a stronger, better Louisiana and Washington Parish for all of us. I envision our home and our state as a place where our children choose to live, work, and raise their families-not a place they feel compelled to leave.
From the start, I spoke passionately about transforming Louisiana. While we made remarkable progress in 2024, the first year of this four-year term, we must remain bold and forward-thinking as we approach 2025.
This past year was truly historic. With an organizational session, a regular session, and three special sessions, the Louisiana Legislature convened more often in 2024 than any legislature before it. Every long day and sacrifice were worth it when you consider the extraordinary results we achieved:
Historic Tax Reforms
•We enacted one of the largest tax cuts in Louisiana's history, reducing personal income taxes, lowering corporate income tax rates, eliminating uncompetitive business taxes, and transitioning toward a fairer, consumption-based tax system.
•These reforms also ensure no income tax for our working poor, increased deductions for retirees, and pave the way for a permanent pay raise for teachers-pending voter approval in March.
•Groundbreaking Criminal Justice Reforms
•We laid the foundation to restore safety to Louisiana and New Orleans for families, children, and the tourists who are vital to our economy. These changes empower law enforcement to better protect and serve, allowing us to focus on preserving our culture and way of life.
Transformative Education Reforms
•With a focus on early literacy and math, Louisiana has achieved its highest educational rankings, making us more competitive with other states and setting up our students for long-term success.
What Does This Mean for Washington Parish?
As Highway 3241 nears completion in 2025, we are positioning ourselves for a brighter future-one where our children can live, work, and raise their families right here at home. I am actively collaborating with the new unified Washington Chamber of Commerce and encouraging our Economic Development Foundation to take a more active role. I am also advocating for the importance of Washington Parish to our leaders in Baton Rouge and Washington, D.C.
Looking ahead to 2025, I've already scheduled a convening of parish and state leaders to take place here in mid-January. This meeting will emphasize not only Washington Parish but also the vital role we play within the Northshore region.
I will continue to advocate for infrastructure projects that connect Washington Parish to the broader region, spurring economic activity and growth. Additionally, I am working closely with parish and local leaders to ensure we maintain a quality of life that attracts and retains working families.
Addressing Insurance Reform
One of the most pressing issues facing our community is the affordability of insurance-a challenge many of you have felt personally. Over the past year, I've invited Commissioner of Insurance Tim Temple to Washington Parish twice to hear directly from our citizens. The solution lies in addressing tort reform and tackling out-of-control insurance and accident-related lawsuits.
A Brighter Future for Louisiana
For over 60 years, Louisiana has faced setbacks in health, education, and the economy. But now, we stand on the brink of reversing these generational challenges. Together, we can create a state where opportunity abounds, and our children and grandchildren thrive.
My commitment remains steadfast: to make Washington Parish and Louisiana better for all of us. Our children and their children deserve nothing less. To serve as your voice in Baton Rouge is an honor and blessing that I do not take lightly.
