Sebastion L. Rogers, 21, of Angie was arrested this past weekend after a firefighter from Washington Parish Fire District 5 observed him using flashing lights and sirens to pass vehicles while driving south on Highway 21 on Thursday, August 7.
After observing the black pickup truck pass several vehicles with lights and sirens, including at least two 18-wheelers, the firefighter called his peers in neighboring districts and also the Sheriff’s Office and confirmed that the truck did not belong to any of those jurisdictions.
He later confirmed through contacts in Mississippi that the truck was being leased to Rogers by a volunteer firefighter in Mississippi, who had not removed the lights and sirens.
The firefighter informed the Washington Parish Sheriff’s Office of the incident, and investigators located Rogers and the truck near Stuarts Café in Angie. After questioning, Rogers was arrested and charged with Impersonation of a Peace Officer or Firefighter and Reckless Operation of a Motor Vehicle, based on his statements and statements from witnesses to the incident.
According to the Washington Parish Sheriff’s Office, Rogers is a recently terminated deputy sheriff. He was terminated after violating social media policy while attending the Slidell Regional Police Academy as a representative of the Sheriff’s Office.
Bail for Rogers was set at $7,500 and after meeting his bond requirement he was released, pending his next court appearance.
