Last week was a terrible week on Highway 21 both north and south of Bogalusa, as traffic accidents claimed the lives of three people.
The first accident occurred on Tuesday at Highway 21’s intersection with Lee’s Creek Road, about two miles sourth of the Bogalusa city limits.
That crash claimed the lives of two Bogalusa residents, 86-year-old Donald Williams and 84-year-old Gwendolyn S. Williams.
The preliminary investigation revealed that Donald Williams was driving 2013 Lincoln MKS on Lees Creek Road toward LA Hwy 21. Meanwhile, a 2012 Hyundai Sonata was traveling southbound on LA Hwy 21. For an unknown reason, the Lincoln entered the intersection and traveled directly into the path of the Hyundai, which struck the Lincoln on the driver's side.
Donald Williams and Gwendolyn S. Williams, who were both properly restrained, sustained serious injuries and were transported to local hospitals where they later died due to their injuries. The driver of the Hyundai, who was properly restrained, sustained moderate injuries and was transported to a local hospital.
Two days later, on Thursday, at approximately 1:10 p.m., Louisiana State Police Troop L began investigating a two-vehicle serious injury crash on LA Hwy 21 near Lon Miley Road north of Bogalusa.
The crash claimed the life of 64-year-old Tommy J. Dollar of Angie. The accident occurred on Hwy 21 approximately 2 miles north of Bogalusa.
Preliminary investigation revealed that a 2025 International tractor-trailer looging truck was traveling on a logging road toward LA Hwy 21. Simultaneously, a 2010 Dodge Ram, driven by Dollar, was traveling southbound on LA Hwy 21.
For reasons still under investigation, the International entered the intersection and traveled directly into the path of the Dodge, which struck the International on the driver’s side.
Dollar, who was unrestrained, sustained serious injuries and was transported to Our Lady of the Angels hospital, where he later died due to his injuries. The driver of the International, who was properly restrained, was uninjured.
In both of the fatal accidents, troopers said the investigations are continuing.
