Editor, The Era-Leader:
Each year for Halloween, my husband and I put out the Big Orange Pumpkin. Those who trick or treat in the East Acres Subdivision are familiar with the pumpkin. My father-in-law built the pumpkin about 30 years ago and we have erected it each year since then. The pumpkin has a hidden door. You knock on the pumpkin, and the door is opened from the back. A hand appears dispensing candy.
Our children are grown but we continue to share this with our grandchildren and our community.
I want to publicly give recognition to the kids and parents that stopped by this year. After 30 years, this year's visitors were by far the politest. Most every child said, "Thank You" after receiving their candy. The parents said, "Thank You".
My husband and I were uplifted by the manners exhibited!
In today's society hearing the negative has become the norm. Franklinton has well-mannered kids and parents that have taught them well!
