An 18-year-old man was arrested this past Tuesday after a pursuit east of Clifton.
Brian Archuleta of Happy Acres Road South was driving a 2020 Chevrolet Malibu on Max Brumfield Road when a Washington Parish Sheriff’s Office deputy initiated a traffic stop.
According to the official report, Archuleta refused to stop, and a pursuit began.
During the pursuit, the Malibu traveled off of the roadway and crashed. After the crash, a deputy exited his vehicle. The Malibu then traveled toward the deputy. The deputy discharged his service pistol at the oncoming vehicle and the Malibu crashed off the roadway again. After crashing for the second time, Archuleta fled on foot before being apprehended by deputies.
One deputy was injured in the incident and transported to Riverside Medical Center. Archuleta and a passenger in the Malibu were not injured.
Archuleta is charged with being a fugitive from another jurisdiction, felony resisting by flight, aggravated flight, and resisting an officer. His bond was set at $30,000 and as of press time he remained in the Washington Parish Jail.
Because the deputy discharged his weapon, the Louisiana State Police have been asked to investigate the incident. State police have processed the scene of the incident for evidence. The investigation remains ongoing.
