Home, sweet home! The Bowling Green Buccaneers rolled past St. Patrick Catholic, our visitors from Biloxi, MS, in dominant fashion this past Friday night. This was a great game for Bowling Green to correct themselves and polish up as they head into district play in the next two weeks. The Buccaneer offense controlled the line of scrimmage and the play clock, rushing for 460 yards and 48 carries and scoring on every possession. Defensively for Bowling Green, it was the same story, holding the Fighting Irish to 82 total yards of offense and 6 points.
Bowling Green received the opening kickoff and proceeded to drive down the field at will, for their first score of the night. Senior Gabe Jas and Senior Dray Killingsworth led the charge with a combined 14 carries and 73 yards, with a 19 yard scamper by Senior QB Larkin Jenkins and that ended with a score from the 2 yard line by Killingsworth, giving the Buccaneers a 6-0 lead over the Fighting Irish.
The second drive for Buccaneers would be highlighted by the 6'2 185 pound Junior TE Tucker Pittman, who was on the receiving end of two key passes from Jenkins. A 27 yard gain up the home sideline that would set Jenkins up for a 10 yard rushing touchdown off the option keep and Pittman for the two point conversion on a boot pass (14-0).
With 3:50 left on the clock, Jas would rip a 35 yard run off tackle to the Bowling Green 36 yard line. Followed by a 25 yard run by Senior RB Luke Hingle that would set Senior RB/LB Cam Seal up for a 10 yard touchdown run down the middle. The Buccaneers go into the half with a 21-0 lead.
The Fighting Irish received the ball after the half. A timeout was called by St. Patrick on first down for a personnel adjustment. The Fighting Irish proceeded to fumble the snap for a loss of 5 yards. Toss was called on the next play, but the defense was all over it, tackling the St. Patrick ball carrier for a loss of 2 on the play. The Buccaneer defense is looking for the fourth consecutive "3 and Out" versus the Fighting Irish offense; Post Wheel is dialed up for St. Patrick and they connect on the wheel route. The receiver made a great leaping catch on the sideline and took it 85 yards for what would be the only score of the night for the Irish. (21-6)
Big run after big run by a slew of Buccaneer ball carriers. They seemed determined to finish this game in complete control as they drove down the field for 80 yards, converting on 3rd down and 12 with a handoff to Jas. Jenkins finds himself in the end zone for the second time in the game with a 6 yard touchdown off the left side (28-6).
The Buccaneer defense has been on a tear all evening. Three consecutive plays for a loss with one coming by way of a sack by Seal followed by an incomplete pass and a punt. The Bowling Green offense would take the field and attempt a pass off a play action that would be intercepted off of a tip. Jenkins had an Irish defender in his face which forced an underthrow. Coach Dean King never flinched as his defense answered the call and forced yet another "3 and Out."
Back to the ground game, the Bowling Green offense ran themselves into the 4th quarter. Jas and Killingsworth carried the load, a nifty 19 yard run by Seal making defenders miss and throwing a nasty stiff arm set Killingsworth up for a 10 yard touchdown run with 11:14 remaining.
An interception by Senior FS Cayden Schloegel on 2nd down gave the Buccaneer offense the ball yet again, with great field position. From the Bowling Green 36 yard line the Buccaneer offense would go two plays and find the end zone. Senior Dray Killingsworth the "hat trick" finds the end zone for his third rushing touchdown from 16 yards out.
Subs are in and towels are waving. Your Bowling Green Buccaneers have secured their second victory with an impressive performance on both sides of the ball. The offense finished with 48 carries 460 yards and 7 TDs and the defense with -26 rushing allowed, 108 passing allowed and 1 int.
