Franklinton High School has officially announced that Clay Tageant has been tapped to succeed his father as the school’s head baseball coach.
He has seven years of experience as an assistamnt at Franklinton and as head coach at Varnado High School.
A 2011 graduate of FHS, Clay Tageant will follow in the footsteps of his father, Jeff Tageant, who is retiring aftger 37 years as head coach of the Demons.
FHS Principal Shane Smith said, “He has been around baseball his entire life, growing up as a coach's son. Coach Tageant is passionate about developing and mentoring young men through the game of baseball. He has experienced success as a high school player, college player, assistant coach and head coach. Clay Tageant is respected by many coaches throughout the area at the high school and college level. He understands the importance of the classroom in the development of student athletes. His vision for the Demon Baseball Program aligns with the Vision of School Administration.
Smith added, “Clay is the son of two educators who invested their lives into our community and its schools. He understands the profession.”
Clay Tageant’s father, Jeff, and his mother, Toni, taught together for many years at Franklinton High School. Toni Tageant also retired recently.
The baseball Tageant family has another head coach: Clay Tageant’s brother, Evan, is head baseball coach at Belle Chasse High School.
And Clay’s grandfather, Robert Tageant, also served as head baseball coach at FHS, winning the state championship in 1967. So Clay Tageant becomes the third consecutive generation of his family to be head baseball coach at FHS.
