Former State Sen. Jerry A. Thomas of the Thomas Community passed away last night (Tuesday night) following a long illness.
Funeral services will be announced, but they will likely be held on Monday, October 2.
Thomas was a long-time physician at Riverside Medical Center in Franklinton and at the Thomas Clinic in Thomas. He was actually the founder of the Thomas Clinic, and it remained one of his proudest accomplishments.
He retired from his medical practice in May of this year due to his illness. He had served the parish for 44 years as a physician.
Thomas was elected to three different positions in Washington Parish.: First as Coroner, then as State Representative, and finally as State Senator. All total, he served in elective office for 24 years.
