Colonel (Retired) Joseph "Joey" H. Baugh, Jr. is the son of Dr. Joe and Barbara Baugh of Mt. Hermon.
Joey retired from the U. S. Army Reserves after serving 32 years in various positions within the U. S. Army Reserves, Mississippi Army National Guard, and the United States Army.
Joey was born June 25, 1971, in Franklinton, graduated from Mt. Hermon High School in 1989 and continued his education at the University of Southern Mississippi (USM) in Hattiesburg, MS earning a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration (BSBA) with an emphasis in accounting.
He later completed graduate work at William Carey University (WCU) in Hattiesburg earning a master's degree in Business Administration (MBA). He is a Certified Public Accountant licensed to practice in Mississippi, earned the American Society of Military Comptrollers (ASMC) Certified Defense Financial Manager (CDFM) designation and obtained the Department of Defense Financial Management Certification Level III. COL Baugh is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), Council of Petroleum Accountants Societies (COPAS) and is an officer of the Southeast Oil and Gas Association (SOGA) where he currently serves as Treasurer.
Col. Baugh began his military career in 1990 when he enlisted into the 344th Maintenance Company, US Army Reserves in Bogalusa. He completed his basic training at Ft. Bliss, Texas and advanced individual training in Edgewood, Maryland earning a Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) as a Wheeled Vehicle Mechanic (63W). Col. Baugh entered the Simultaneous Membership Program (SMP), which allowed him to receive additional training in preparation to become an officer. He commissioned in 1994 o Second Lieutenant through the Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC) at USM.
Col. Baugh served in a variety of assignments in Financial Operations, Financial Management and Sustainment during his 32 years of service. His assignments within the Mississippi Army National Guard (MSARNG) 66th Troop Command include Aide-de-Camp, finance detachment executive officer and detachment commander within the 210th Finance Battalion (BN) where he deployed in 2002 as the 220th Finance Detachment (FWD) Commander, 28th Infantry Division, Multinational Division North, NATO Task Force Eagle Bosnia-Herzegovina during Operating Joint Forge. He took command of the 66th Troop Command Headquarters and Headquarters Company (HHC) upon his return from deployment and again mobilized in 2004 to the Camp Shelby Forces Command (FORSCOM) Mobilization Force Generation Installation (MFGI) where he served in a variety of assignments to include: installation staff public affairs officer (PAO), Morale Welfare and Recreation (MWR) officer, Protocol and Joint Visitors Bureau (JVB) officer and the installation Finance and Accounting Officer before deploying a second time in 2009 to Camp Arifjan, Kuwait in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF), as the Executive Officer (XO) of the 210th Financial Management Company and the 1st Special Troops Battalion, 1st Sustainment Brigade.
Upon redeployment COL Baugh was assigned as the Camp Shelby Joint Force Training Center (CSJFTC) MFGI Deputy Director of Resource Management and later assigned upon promotion to Lieutenant Colonel (LTC) as the Installation Director of Resource Management (DRM). COL Baugh transferred to the 11th BN, 108th Regiment (REGT), US Army Reserves in 2016 to become an instructor for the Command and General Staff College (CGSC) - Intermediate Level Education (ILE) course and later assumed the position of CGSC-ILE Area Coordinator for the State of Mississippi before his assignment to the Army Reserve Sustainment Command (ARSC), Birmingham, Alabama as the Assistant Chief of Staff G-8 (Financial Management).
COL Baugh's awards and decorations include four Meritorious Service Medals, Seven Army Commendation Awards, two Army Achievement awards, nine Army Reserve Components Achievement Medals, two National Defense Service Medals, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Armed Forces Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, two Armed Forces Reserve Medal with Mobilization Device, Army Service Ribbon, two Army Overseas Service Ribbons, Army Reserve Components Overseas Training Ribbon, NATO Medal, Mississippi National Guard Magnolia Medal, Mississippi National Guard War Medal, Mississippi National Guard Longevity Medal, and the Parachutist Badge.
His military education includes Finance Officer Basic Course (FOBC), Finance Officer Advanced Course (FOAC), Combined Arms Exercise (CAX), Command and General Staff College (CGSC) - Intermediate Level Education (ILE) Common Core Course (CC), and ILE Advanced Operations Course (AOC).
He is married to Julie Leonard Baugh and has three children: Rebekah (20), Joseph (18) and Jacob (16). COL Baugh and his family reside in Hattiesburg, MS.
