Part 2 of the Franklinton sidewalk improvement program is expected to begin within the next few months.
Part 2 will construct new sidewalks from where Ellis Street intersects with Main Street all the way to the Fairgrounds.
The major portion of the program will be funded with a $400,000 grant from the state Department of Transportation and Development. The Washington Parish Government will pay a 20% match ($80,000) as well as pay for all engineering and design costs. Although the project will largely benefit Franklinton residents, the Parish Government is covering all required matching costs.
The first part of the sidewalk improvement project has received rave reviews from residents. The first part was on streets aurrounding te courthouse and included some adjacent streets.Part 2 of the program will continue with the striking design of sidewalks installed in Part 1.
Parish officials expect Part 2 to be finished in time for the new sidewalks to be used by people attending the 2023 Washington Parish Fair.
