It’s hard to believe that Wednesday is the first day of Summer.
The miserable heat wave of the past two weeks didn’t feel like late Spring --- it felt like late Summer.
According to the National Weather Service, slightly lower temperatures are returning this week.
The high temperarture for the past two weeks was in the upper 90’s most days, and the “feels like” temperature was over 100 degrees.
During the next few days the temperature is expected to be a bit better, with highs in the low and mid 90’s. Offering even more relief, the nightime temperatures will be lower for the next few days than they have been for the past two weeks. Look for lows in the low 70’s in Washington Parish after nightfall.
As bad as the blistering heat has been, it could always be worse. The all time high temperature for Louisiana was 114 degrees, recorded in August of 1936.
The all time high temperature in the continental United States was 134 degrees, recorded at Death Valley, California in July of 1915.
The heat wave of the past few weeks had some people calling repairmen because they thought their air conditioning units weren’t working properly. But in most cases, it was simply that air conditioning units couldn’t keep up with the high temperatures
