A prominent New Orleans hotel owner and property developer who also owned property near Franklinton died Sunday morning from injuries suffered in an earlier traffic accident.
Joe Jaeger, 77, was well known in the Franklinton area for his generosity. He was a supporter of the Franklinton High School baseball team, offering financial donations and other assistance.
He owned multiple hotels in New Orleans and the skyscraper known as Plaza Tower, as well as other properties. In Washington Parish, he was the owner of Trison Farm, a luxury estate north of Franklinton off of Highway 438. The estate was valued at more than $5 million. For the past five years Jaeger has leased Trison Farm to Hays Creek Outfitters as a commercial hunting lodge and corporate retreat.
Jaeger was critically injured in an accident on June 19 in St. Tammany Parish before passing away on Sunday.
The accident occurred on Highway 25 about 1.5 miles south of Folsom, where Jaeger owns a large horse farm. According to the state police report, Jaeger pulled out of his driveway onto the highway and his vehicle was struck by a pickup truck.
Jaeger is survived by his wife Becky and sons Joey, 59, Ryan and Mike, both 51. Another son, Todd, previously passed away.
