The Franklinton Demons football team participated in the Red Stick Sports jamboree against the host team, Parkview Baptist Eagles last Thursday. After a hard fought two quarters of play the Demons fell 29-13.
Parkview went up on their initial drive of the game as they scored on a pass play with 9:17 left in the first half. The Demons fumbled the kickoff return and the Eagles scooped it up and scored to go up 15-0 at the 9:13 mark.
The Demons offense then scored on their first play of the game as Jacob Crain passed out to Kelly Daniels who raced eighty yards for a touchdown. Santiago Morales added the extra point and the score was 15-7.
The Demons Avery Brumfield recovered a fumble on the Eagles next drive to give the Demons a chance to tie the game. They drove from their own twenty yard line to the Eagles thirteen but a fourth down pass was intercepted at the one yard line to end their chances.
The Demons had the ball first in the second half and punted allowing Parkview to score in that drive. The Demons fumbled the ball in their own territory to give the Eagles good field position and they took advantage with a ten yard run to cap off the short drive and put them up 29-7.
The Demon's Michael Brock returned the kickoff into Eagles territory to their 49 yard line to set the Demons up with a short field. After a short drive Brock caught a pass from Crain from four yards out for a touchdown and a 29-13 score, which would be the final.
Coach Nick Saltaformaggio saw positive things in the jamboree game. "We are improving. We have a few things to iron out, but effort is not one. That gives me encouragement that we are moving forward."
Sophomore quarterback Jacob Crain completed ten of fifteen passes for 169 yards and two touchdowns and an interception. Kelly Daniels had 3 receptions for 80 yards and a touchdown, Micah Hart had 3 receptions for 27 yards, Conner Magee had 2 receptions for 44 yards and Michael Brock had 2 receptions for 18 yards and a touchdown.
Rayshone Manuel rushed for 23 yards on seven carries and Conner Magee rushed for 37 yards on five carries.
The Demons will host the Bogalusa Lumberjacks this Friday in the battle for the Pine Burr Trophy. It is the regular season opener for both teams.
