The Parish Council meeting room in the Courthouse was crowded this past Thursday morning as Lt. Governor Billy Numgesser presented a large check to the board members of Recreation District 1.
The funds will be used for major upgrades at Atoka Recreation Park, which is located 2.5 miles north of Franklinton alongside Highway 25.
The grant check that Nungesser presented for $341,225 added together with State Capital Outlay funds and inkind work provided by the Parish Government equals the $816,225 total cost of the project.
When completed, Atoka will have fencing and a shade structure at the entrance from Highway 25, construction of baseball fields, a concession stand and restrooms, parking lot, irrigation, and a wastewater treatment facility.
