A 24-year-old resident of Honduras drowned last Sunday at White Sands Lake Day Beach near Enon.
According to the Washington Parish Sheriff’s Office, Oscar Torres was pulled from the water unresponsive and rescuation attempts were unsuccessful.
Deputies were told by witnesses that Torres had been underwater for approximately 10 minutes before he was located and pulled to shore.
The Sheriff’s Office reported that Torres was vacationing in the United States on a visa from Honduras.
Sheriff Randy Seal said, "Our deepest sympathies go out to Mr. Torres's family during this unimaginably difficult time. Although we are aware of the fact that water-related incidents tend to occur more frequently during summer, no one could have been prepared for a tragedy of this magnitude.”
