What was expected to be a close race for District Attorney turned out not to be so close after all.
On Saturday, interim District Attorney Collin Sims rode a strong victory margin in St. Tammany Parish to an overall big win in the 2-parish 22nd Judicial District
Sims’ margin in Washington Parish was much closer than in St. Tammany Parish.
District-wide, Sims beat Vincent Wynne easily by a 67% to 33% margin. His St. Tammany Parish margin was even stronger, 69% to 31%,
But in Washington Parish, the two candidates ran much closer. Sims took 52% of the Washington Parish vote while Wynne took 48%.
Sims was the First Assistant to former District Attorney Warren Montgomery. When Montgomery passed away last fall after a long battle with cancer, Sims became the interim District Attorney. With his victory in Saturday’s special election, he now becomes the actual 22nd Judicial District Attorney.
