A lengthy investigation into a stolen tractor has resulted in the arrest of a Bogalusa suspect and a warrant seeking another suspect.
The investigation has resulted in the recovery of the tractor and its return to its proper owner.
In mid-May of last year, a 2015 Kubota tractor was stolen from a rural property on Ard Davidson Road, in the far southwest corner of Washington Parish.
St. Tammany Parish deputies recently received an anonymous tip that indicated the tractor was located in a shed off of Million Dollar Road in St. Tammany Parish. After receiving consent from the landowner, the shed was opened and the tractor was discovered.
Detective Kevin Bond of the Washington Parish Sheriff’s Office has been investigating the theft of the tractor. After it was found in St. Tammany Parish, interviews conducted by Detective Bond revealed crucial information implicating people who were involved in the theft.
An anonymous tipster provided vital details during an interview at the sheriff's office and it was discovered that Mark Hunt and Jason Songer had attempted to obtain keys to the shed where the stolen tractor was hidden. The tipster's cooperation proved instrumental in obtaining key evidence for the case.
Last week, Detective Bond, assisted by other Washington Parish Sheriff's Office investigators and deputies, executed an arrest warrant at the Bogalusa residence of Mark Ashley Hunt.
While Hunt was not present, Detective Bond identified and recovered the stolen trailer that had apparently been used in the tractor theft. Mark Hunt later arrived at the scene and was subsequently arrested after providing incriminating information regarding his involvement in the theft.
Detective Bond continues to actively pursue Jason Songer. A warrant has been issued for Songer’s arrest.
The Washington Parish Sheriff's Office commends Detective Bond for his dedication and diligence in this investigation, which has led to the recovery of stolen property and progress towards justice. The cooperation of the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office and a concerned citizen has been invaluable in advancing this case.
