After a 20-year absence, the Washington Parish Watermelon Festival made its return this past weekend at the Fairgrounds in Franklinton.
The festival opened with a parade Friday evening, followed by fireworks. The weekend that followed was packed with events, including numerous bands and singers.
Although the temperatures were hot, most attendees seemed to have a good time. Many said they were glad the festival had finally returned and they hope it will be held again next year. Shown in the photo above is the Watermelon Festival Parade Grand Marshal, John Gallaspy. He is a longtime attorney in the parish who is also known for growing high quality watermelons.
(Special appreciation is extended to the hardworking organizers and volunteers who made the 2023 Washington Parish Watermelon festival a reality.)
