Game of the Week - Pearl River (2-2) at Sumner (3-1) The Rebels of Pearl River are on a hot streak as they have won their last two games and made good showings in their two losses. The Cowboys are also riding high after upsetting Franklinton and are looking to extend their streak. With the offenses these teams operate this game could be over by 8pm!
The Rebels are headed in a good direction under Coach Jerry Leonard and need a statement game. The Cowboys don't want it to be them and will prepare for that. The Cowboys showed a lot of cramping late in last week's game so the team in better physical shape may have an advantage.
Should be a good one!
Notes and Quotes
All of the Washington Parish high school football teams lost last week. The odds of this happening are less than two percent or it should only happen about once every five years. I certainly can't remember it happening before. Let's hope it is a long time before it happens again!
"We had multiple opportunities to win and failed to finish drives. Our players played very hard and played well enough to win the game. I have to do a better job of preparing them for the competition we play during the week of practice. The key now is to get back up and battle."
----Franklinton coach Nick Saltaformaggio
"I did not think we had a good week of practice and it showed during the game. I thought we gave effort but the preparation wasn't there during the week. We are a better team than that and we need to show up Monday ready to go back to work." ----Pine coach Bradley Seal
"Last night the Lumberjacks let one slip through their hands. After being down 20-6 at halftime they fought back and in the fourth quarter with 9 minutes left on the clock they were on the 10 yard line down 28-18 with a chance to cut the lead to 4 points. However, JoJo Mingo threw an interception to end the furious comeback by the Jacks! St Helena has a good young football team but the Jacks have one as well. Next week Bogalusa will travel to New Orleans to take on Jefferson Rise Charter Academy. Go Jacks!"
-----Bogalusa coach Larry Harold
We didn't get the result we wanted, but I thought our guys showed a lot of fight.; There are some things we have to improve on, and we'll get back to work and keep pushing forward."
-----Varnado coach Vonta Owens
"We took one on the chin last night by a team that will probably be the eventual state champs. We just have to get back to work Monday and prepare to try to win our district. We have to take it one game at a time and try to finish these last four games strong."
---- Bens Ford coach Destin Pittman
