Franklinton is in good shape as they are still at #7 in Division II and have probably locked up a playoff spot. They still need at least one more win to secure a first round home game. Two losses would likely mean a first round road game.
Pine, at #18, is in peril of being on the road in the first round. They have two winnable games remaining and two wins should put them back in line for a first round playoff game at home.
Bogalusa is at 22 after their win last week. However, they are at risk of falling out of the top 28 unless they can manage to win at least one of their remaining games.
Varnado is sitting at #28 and that is a very precarious position with two games remaining in which they are not favored to win. They desperately need an upset in at least one of those games to have any chance at the playoffs.
Reminder that the top 28 teams in the power ratings receive playoff berths. The top 16 receive first round home games and the top 4 receive first round byes. The higher seeded team (1 being the highest and 28 the lowest) will be the home team throughout the playoffs.
Notes and quotes
Varnado had their game with Crescent City forfeited to them as Crescent City advised they didn't have enough kids to participate.
"We played well early, which is what we needed to do. We got a little sloppy at the end. But a win is a win, it gives us five and five will get us in the solid hunt for a high seed in the playoffs. The guys that played well for us have played well all year. Defensively we still have to get some things together, but we're better than we have been. I'm happy for the win, happy for the school and the community, obviously. It's been since 2015 since we've had back to back winning seasons here and a win next week gives us a winning record. There's a lot of good football left in the tank."
---Nick Saltaformaggio, Franklinton head coach.
"We were able to come out and jump on them early 14-0. But they are ranked #1 for a reason. In the second quarter their running backs got going. We possessed the ball the entire third quarter; and into the fourth quarter; which was a real good drive but we did not finish and score. The fourth quarter the game got away from us. I'm proud of the way we played for three quarters but against a team like Sumner, you have to finish drives and play well for the entire game."
---Bradley Seal, Pine head coach.
"It was a tough loss but I believe our guys will come back next week better and stronger for our last game against Wayne. It's a big game for us and it's at home and senior night."
---Dean King, Bowling Green head coach.
"Well, they came out and did exactly what we expected them to do. But the game boiled down to us making mistakes and they took advantage o them. Anytime you play a good team you have to play clean."
---Destin Pittman, Bens Ford head coach.
