Washington Parish Sheriff Jason Smith has applied for the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant for $12,014.00.
If the grant is received, the Sheriff's Office will purchase four laptops and four laptop docking stations for patrol deputies and their units. Deputies will then be able to work from their vehicles without returning to the main office or substations.
This will allow more time for deputies to be out of the office, responding to calls, ultimately leading to faster response times. Laptops are durable, easy to use and offer more usability compared to other options like tablets or iPads.
Citizens and neighborhood or community-based organizations are invited to comment or ask questions about the grant on April 27 from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Washington Parish Sheriff's Office in Franklinton. Anyone who has further questions may call WPSO at 985-839-3434.
