For those of you attending the Parish council meeting on July 27th, you were witness to a “setting the record straight" event.
The ‘Stop The Solar Farm’ group was there in force to support the council's passing of the moratorium resolution 26-1506 and to urge the council to continue the moratorium past the 90 day limit.
The council then heard from David Anthony, myself, and Nick Smith on the subject of resolution 18-267 that was passed by the council on July 9, 2018. We considered its passage as inappropriate as it did not allow the public to participate.
Remarks made by Parish President Ryan Seal in the council meeting of July 13, 2026 were not entirely accurate, IMHO. There was more to this than most of the public ever heard.
The presentations made by Mr Anthony, myself, and Mr Smith were not accusations of themselves, but just bringing before the public more information to this than President Seal's remarks covered.
The big unanswered question was: if resolution 18-267 had not passed, giving Iris Solar its ITEP exemption, was it possible that Iris Solar would be in our parish? Or, the Sunlight facility? We don't know and probably never will.
What we do know is then-Councilman Chris Workman got the resolution added to the agenda and passed in short order. President Seal's remark, “You can't force something through. You put it on the agenda. It stays there 2 weeks. It's voted on. It's public.” This was not the case with resolution 18-267.
